About Moretonhampstead Development Trust
The Moretonhampstead Development Trust is a charitable company which was set up by local people in 1995 to promote the social, cultural and economic regeneration of the area. Since then the Trust has raised over a million pounds for local projects. Early initiatives include: the Visitor Information Centre, the Computer Learning Centre and the Dartmoor Flight Public Art Project. The Trust has also worked with other local organisations developing projects such as King George V Sports and Community Centre and the Moretonhampstead Festival of Foods, Beer and Arts.
Today the Trust is working on a number of local projects including the development of the old Green Hill primary school, a Victorian schoolhouse positioned in a prominent spot close to Moretonhampstead’s town square. Green Hill will incorporate a large, dedicated youth centre, artists studios, offices and workspace, heritage archives and an art gallery. The arts development aspects of the project are being led by a Steering Group made up of six local artists, with support from the Development Trust. A number of accomplished local artists make up the gallery Selection Panel, including Peter Randall-Page, Peter Stiles, Tabatha Andrews and Susan Derges. Green Hill will be open to the public in December 2011. For more information please visit the Green Hill Arts website at www.greenhillarts.org or call 01647 440775.
