Welcome to Moretonhampstead, a small town
set in some of the finest countryside in the Dartmoor National Park. The range
of activities described here makes the Town an ideal base for an active holiday

Walking Moretonhampstead is an ideal
centre for walking. A network of footpaths and bridleways criss-crosses the
surrounding moorland. All you need is OS Outdoor Leisure Map 28 which covers
all of Dartmoor at 2.5 ins. to 1mile (4cm = 1km) available from the
Information Centre and
other local shops. On summer evenings and on
alternate Sunday mornings throughout the rest of the year, local rambler
Gary Cox leads walks around Moreton and surrounding moor land. The walks
average about 5 miles (8km) and are free. No booking - just turn up.

Cycling Moretonhampstead is an ideal centre for cycling on or off road, surrounded by a network of quiet lanes and a superb range of bridleways and byways. The hilly terrain can be quite demanding but the spectacular views will reward your effort. Call at the Information Centre for details of off road routes.

The Dartmoor Way Dartmoor Escapes on Foot or by Bike The Dartmoor Way is a round-Dartmoor walking route and cycling route, both passing through Moretonhampstead. A network of accommodation providers offers baggage delivery at reasonable rates, leaving you the freedom to roam, with your heavy belongings in safe hands. Still Water Game Fishing In the beautiful valleys of the Teign
and Dart you can fish for Salmon, Sea Trout and wild Brown Trout.

Letterbox Trail Letterboxing has become a popular activity on Dartmoor (books available from the Information Centre). Moretonhampstead has its' own unique set of 12 letterbox stamps which are to be found by following a walk of about 5 miles around the town and surrounding countryside. Clue sheets available from the Information Centre - £2.00. Swimming Pool A solar heated outdoor pool is located
behind the Court Street free Car Park. It is normally open end of May to

Tennis The Tennis Club welcomes visitors to use their excellent hard tennis courts. The courts
can be booked (£3 per hour/court) and the key picked up at Websters the Newsagents in
Ford Street. Craft Activities Moreton boasts three potters and an artists studio. All four have galleries open to the
public. Stained Glass Making - Learn how to make a panel in a day and take it home

flea market every Tuesday 10 am -1pm in the Parish Hall. Come and
browse for books, plants, local crafts and home-made products, that bargain

Bird Watching
The area around Moretonhampstead is ideal for birdwatching. 3 locations in particular (Kennick Reservoir, Mardon Down and Butterdon Down) offer excellent opportunities to see a wide range of native and migratory birds.
