The Tour of Britain Cycle Race is coming here!!
The Tour of Britain cycle race returns to the South West for two days in 2010, passing through the region on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 September.
Now in its fourth year in our region, it will take on its familiar format that has been so successful in recent years. The race is comprised of 16 teams of six cyclists who will race across the counties of Somerset and Devon on stages 4 and 5 of this international event. The race receives global television coverage and is broadcast nationally on ITV4 on the day of the race.
The Tour of Britain is the UK's leading professional cycling race and the biggest spectator event in the country. Last year's two South West stages saw almost a quarter of a million people turning out along the routes to see the racing, generating almost £6 million for the economies of Somerset and Devon.
On Tuesday 14 September the race will start in Minehead and travel through Somerset into Devon, finishing on the Esplanade in Teignmouth. On Wednesday 15 September the race will start in Tavistock and travel through Devon finishing in Glastonbury. Most towns along the route will have rolling road closures, meaning the roads will only be closed whilst the race passes through the town/village and this will include Moretonhampstead. There will be some locations such as Honiton, Sidmouth, Topsham, Cullompton, Teignmouth and Tavistock that will have further traffic management restrictions in place.
Information on the race route and expected times are shown below. The route in detail, further information about road closures, traffic management information and local events can all be found by visiting www.southwesttourofbritain.co.uk.
