Computer Courses in the Library

We offer a variety of computing courses each term from the Bowring library in Moretonhampstead.
The courses range from complete beginners to more advanced in small groups with plenty of one-to-one help to get you feeling confident with your PC.
Please do contact us on 01647 440775 with your details if you are interested in our courses giving your name, phone number, email and home address so we can send you a brochure otherwise you may download a booking form at the bottom of this page.
We have a suite of six computers in the library and you are welcome to come and use them during library opening hours or IT Surgery. This service is free for the first half hour and then cost £4 per hour.
Hub Website
The Moretonhampstead Development Trust has set up a new Moretonhampstead Hub website.This site offers you the chance to add your own blog and is a space for Moretonians to express themselves and for ideas and knowledge to be shared. Organisations can add their own page. It is a fun and informal site and we hope you will make use of it. It is free to use and you can access it at home and add photos and videos too. let us know if you would like a page. You may set one up through the IT Surgery at £4 per half hour.

Community Websites
We also offer periodic training in order for you to have your own mini website on this site.
Please see examples. The training takes you through the steps to creating your own mini website together with several pages and a contact form. You will be shown how to add text and images and your site will have some content by the end of the session. There is a small annual fee for administration and service of your website detailed in the Ads section. if you are interested and would like to learn how to make a professional looking site in easy steps that can be up and running straight away please email us and give us your details and the type of website you wish to have.

Beginners Computing with Dickon Fell
A course for complete beginners to learn how to familiarise yourself with your computer starting with the keyboard and moving on to use email, the internet and simple word processing techniques. No experience required. This is a fruiendly relaxed class for complete beginners to help you get started on your PC.
Starts Fri 3rd February 2012 9.30 -11.30am in the library for 6 weeks.

Improvers Computing with Dickon Fell
A course for those with basic knowledge or as a follow on from our Beginners Computing course. Learn more about processes you can use on your PC including creating Word documents, spreadsheets and more.
Starts Friday 3rd February 2012 12midday-2pm in the library for 6 weeks.

How to make the most of Ebay
Now more than ever the internet is part of everyday life! During this afternoon class you will take a look at ebay, how to set up an acount, how to sell your unwanted items and make some extra cash, how to upload photos of what you're selling plus you will learn how to open a Paypal account to deal with all your payments. You can even bring along details of what you want to sell and get going straight away! Give it a go!

Basic Website Design with Merlin Howse
Now more than ever a website is opart of everyday life! Learn how to create your own exciting and interesting website. The course will cover graphics, design and navigation including images. A bsic computer knowledge is required. We'll use free templates and NVU software from the internet and you'll be able to have your own basic website by the end of the course.
Be creative and have a go!

Make the most of Digital Camera with Merlin Howse
Spend a day learning about how to use your digital or phone camera. You will go out and take photographs as a group and then return to the library to download them on to the PC and find out lots of useful tips on making the most of your camera. You will have a picnic lunch whilst taking photoraphs. Children welcome aged 9 and over. Children up to 10yrs go free with a paying adult. 2 children free per paying adult only and they remain the responisibilty of parents at all times.

An overview of the concepts of using spreadsheets on your P.C. Useful for accounting, creating tables or graphs and financial models at home or work. A basic computer knowledge is required. We will use Microsoft Excel. This is a very useful afternoon for anyone who has to do their own accounts and prepare tax returns etc, especially if you are self-employed. Once you have started your spreadsheet you can use it at home or work to maintain your accounts.

Creating your own Web Presence with Merlin Howse
With the continuous push to get us all experts on the internet, it is becoming increasingly important to have a web presence. Perhaps you would like to start a blog or set up a basic website. Or perhaps you would like to use the website as a means of earning income or increasing your visibility. Whatever your goal, this day will move you in the right direction. By the end of the day you will have a mini website or blog to work on at home. Merlin will guide you through the alternatives and the steps to creating a site using WordPress, Blogger and other free mediums.

PowerPoint Presentations for Business and Individuals with Bill Fothergill
Learn how to create a professional PowerPoint presentation using MS PowerPoint from scratch. Learn the steps to creating your own presentation for giving a talk, work demo or hobby. Produce professional slides with pictures and text to show later. Please bring photographs on a CD. Go home with a professional looking basic PowerPoint presentation for home or work use.

Computer Security for Business and Individuals with Merlin Howse
You will be aware of all the security issues that can arise with your PC. On this very useful afternoon, Merlin will take you through the problems and how to alleviate them. The workshop will include viruses, worms, spyware and other threats, including computer crashing and introduce you to free protection

Improvers Spreadsheets with Bill Fothergill
This workshop is for those with some knowledge of spreadsheets or who attended the introduction. On this day you will take what you have learned further and discover how to create graphs, tables and more advanced Excel sheets.

Digital Photo Shop Day with Merlin Howse
A day learning how to transfer pictures from your digital camera, scan them using a flatbed scanner and print photos with an inkjet photo printer. Includes image resolution and picture quality, making selections, copying and pasting parts of images, using the paintbrush and choosing colours, and the basic use of layers. A very useful day for editing your photographs using Photo Shop on your PC.
