IT Surgery at Moretonhampstead Library

This is a new service run by Moretonhampstead Development Trust offering people in the area who have computer problems,  or in need of help and guidance about their computer, the opportunity to have low cost help and advice.

You can bring your queries along and our in-house expert, Merlin Howse, will do his best to help you.

Questions may include:

  • How do I do that?
  • Should I upgrade my computer?
  • Why is it doing that when I want it to do this?
  • Is my computer safe from hackers and viruses?
  • Why has that stopped working?
  • Are my documents safe or should I back them up?
  • What does this mean?
  • Are my personal details safe when I enter them online?
  • It worked last time, how come it isn't now?
  • What's this I heard about service pack 2?
  • etc...
     

    The answers to these sorts of questions will be available at IT surgery held in the Library, Bowring Learning centre on Tuesdays, 7-9pm. For a fee of £4 for each half hour, we can try and solve your IT problems.

    Please note: Assistance from the IT Surgery staff is currently charged by donation. It used to cost £4 for every half hour. This was subsidised and staff where paid £12 per hour. Unfortunatly funding is no longer available for this subsidy and donation goes directly to staff. Please make what you feel is an appropriate donation.

    For common problems we occasionally hold special sessions where people can share there experiences and we can solve them together. These will be advertised on the website.

    We are also able to offer home visits to those who are unable to get to the library for the same contribution of £4 per half hour. Please phone for more information.

    Computer Training!

    We are offer training to help those who are complete beginners to get started on their computers.

    If you would like to learn the basics of how to use a computer and get on-line Merlin will guide you on how to set up a UK-Online account and get you started with a basic computing course that you can continue in your own time on your own computer or in the library. This service costs £4 per half hour training. You may book into IT Surgery to have the training or please contact us to make an appointment if you would like to have this training.

    Please note* We have a suite of six computers in the library. You may use our computers during library opening times and during IT Surgery. This service is free for the first half hour and then £4 per hour on the computer.
