Moretonhampstead Festival of Food, Beer and Arts

Michael Caines visits Moretonhampstead

Fantastic Festival

Saturday 7th March 2009 was a historic day as the Food, Beer and Arts Festival took to the streets of Moreton. Funded through various organisations this event was managed by the Development trust as part of a long term plan to ensure local businesses are able to take their place in sustaining the rural communities of Devon.

Celebrity chef, Michael Caines, opened the Festival and spoke about the importance of such events. There was a Farmers market with good quality produce on sale including a variety of meats, cheeses, bread, vegetables and much more. Thirty-eight local artisits and crafts people exhibited in five venues around the town. There were beers and ciders "on test" and the pubs joined in with entertainment throughout the day. Cooking demonstrations took place in the Parish Hall which squeezed in the audience without a seat to spare. Outside the public joined in with local morris dancing and there was a street cafe atmosphere as crepes and home-made burgers were sold from attractive old-fashioned vans. people came from all over the South West to the festival and car parks were overflowing. Many thanks to Julia Darby of the Development Trust and all the volunteers who helped with the organisation of the festival. it was a great success.
