Sustainable Personal Transport

Sustainable Personal Transport - a "taster" organised by Moreton Action Group for Sustainability (MAGS)

MAGS arranged this "taster" to coincide with the Food and Drink Festival on Saturday 6th March thus ensuring a good number of people could participate.

Crediton Bike Shed came to Moreton for the day with a selection of bikes but particularly focusing on electric bikes.

These bikes have advanced technically in the last few years and really make cycling in Devon (usually rather too hilly) a pleasure. Interested people were able to try out all the bikes and 'Mike the Bike' from Crediton explained how they worked and all the features.

We were also able to try out several folding bikes as these can be used easily in conjunction with public transport. Again these were in a different league from the original folding bikes; the frame stays rigid and so is very comfortable to ride. They fold easily into a shape not much bigger than a big briefcase.

Throughout the middle part of the day the Courtyard was thronging with people and it was not possible to keep a complete record of the many people who learned about and tried out the bikes. However a good number requested to be added to MAGS emailing list to be kept informed about sustainability issues.

The event was held in the courtyard behind Central Café and MAGS is very grateful to John and Jenny Gillespie for allowing it to happen in this excellent venue. We are also grateful to Crediton Bike Shed for bringing and demonstrating the bikes and allowing us to try-out in a relaxed and fun way.  MAGS would like acknowledge the financial assistance of the Learn Devon programme in making this event possible in the first place.
