January 21 2011
Moretonhampstead Festival of Food, Drink and The Arts
Preparation continues for the 3rd Festival to be held on Saturday 5th March in Cross Street and in the Parish Hall. Cross St will be closed from 6am to 6pm from the junction with the A382 (Station Road) to the junction with the cut between the B3212 (Exeter Road) and the A382. Diversions will be in place and well signposted. Additional residents Car Parking and 'Park and Ride' will be provided. Last year's event attracted more than 2000 visitors.
We held a very successful launch to local business, press and producers on 18th January. This was hosted at The Arts and Crafts Chapel. 30 people attended including representatives from national and local newspapers. A full page spread is being planned in several publications.
Michael Caines MBE, from the 2 Michelin Star Gidleigh Park will be opening the festival and demonstrating - a real coup for us.... Riverford Organics are our major sponsor and will be offering prizes and incentives at their cookery demonstrations in The Parish Hall.
We are expecting up to 80 stalls from as close as the next street to as far afield as Cornwall. We want more food related business from the local area to be part of this. Stalls contact Bob Small 440960. An up to date list of producers attending is being maintained on our web site www.moretonfestival.com
An Arts element has been reintroduced this year, with demonstrations in St Andrews Church on a food related theme, including Adam Woolfit Photography (Devon Food - Carol Trewin book) and Joanna Radfords 'Cook the View' printmaking with contributions from many local chefs.. We also plan a 'Secret Studio' trail, however response to our request for participants in Moretonhampstead has been very thin. Please let us know if you want to take part by calling Davina Stewart on 01647 441310. It will be odd to complain about not being included if you have not told us you want to take part!
Volunteers Needed
An event such as this cannot happen without a tremendous amount of hard work. Most of the organization has been carried out by a group of 6 people from the town. We now need to call for volunteers to help us on the day. Various jobs need filling, set up/clear down, Parking/traffic management, Security, Meeting and Greeting, Communications, etc. If you would like to volunteer (please!!) We will be holding volunteers briefings in The Arts and Crafts Chapel, in Cross Street - opposite the Almshouses on Monday 21st Feb at 7pm and again on 28th at 7pm (you only need to come to one of these. We need at least 20 people to help us on the day lots of room and jobs for more!
Either call 440960 or mail Moretonfestival@btinternet.com or turn up at one of the volunteers meetings
