"The Pound" Pound Street is believed to owe its name to a pound for escaped animals which was believed to be somewhere along this street. An uninspiring triangle of land at the Town Centre end of the street will be transformed by sculptures by lead artist Roger Dean; landscaping, and seats by Jonathan Rodney-Jones. Roger commented: "The many facets of Dartmoor, its breathtakingly desolate landscape, its sculptural rock outcrops, its flora and its fauna were all in the back of my mind when working on ideas for this site. I see this scheme as an attraction acceptable on both a visual and an interpretive level and it would offer visitors an introduction to the moorland prior to their visit. Much care has been taken in relation to disabled accessibility both to the site itself and to the sculptural and relief objects. Many of the objects are placed as to be accessible to blind and partially-sited visitors."
