Our Local Sports Centre
Moretonhampstead has an award winning sports centre including a gym, tennis courts, football pitch and skittles and a variety of other sports activities take place there. The centre is located on the outskirts of Moretonhampstead on the North Bovey road. For more detailed information please go to their site at King George V Sport and Community Centre
Football
Moretonhampstead Association Football Club has been established since 1904 and plays in the South Devon Football League. The home matches are played at King George V Sport Centre and the club welcomes all new recruits and supporters, for details see Moretonhampstead Association Football Club website.
Cricket
Moretonhampstead has a village cricket club , which is part of the King George V Playing Fields Trust. For more information and details of matches please visit moreton cricket club.
Archery
Tuition for small groups or individuals is available from a qualified international archer, or at Bovey Castle (especially for larger groups).
Golf

Moretonhampstead's nearest golf course is located at Bovey Castle.
The golf course at Bovey Castle is a challenging and beautiful 18-hole championship course, designed in 1926 by J F Abercromby, one of the finest British golf course designers of the last century. When the course opened in 1930, it quickly gained national acclaim for its reputation as one of the most enjoyable places to play golf.
Designed to rival its sister courses at Gleneagles and Turnberry, this course has been described as an experience of golf never to be forgotten, presenting the pure challenge of golf to professional and amateur alike. The course meanders through the hotel estate, surrounded by idyllic landscape and challenges to meet any handicap.
Bovey Castle also offers a fully-equipped club house, driving range, golf academy and bistro for pre and post match meals and snacks.
Gymnasium
The Sports and Community Centre has a fully equipped gym with a variety of exercise machines and a separate weights area. In the summer holidays supervised, junior gym sessions will be available for 13 to 16 year olds every Monday, from 30th July until 27th August, between 12 noon and 1:30pm. Spinning classes are beginning on 11th September, for details click here. The gym is also available for locals and visitors on a pay as you go basis.
Swimming Pool

A solar heated outdoor pool is located behind the Court Street free car park. It is normally open at the end of May to the beginning of September, dependant on the weather. A board is located in the square in Moretonhampstead giving opening times or enquire at the Information Centre. or see timetable. Plus you can now visit the Moreton Pool website.

Tennis

Walking

Moretonhampstead is known as the Gateway to the Moor and so as you can imagine there are a lot of walking opportunities. To find out more about where to walk, guided walks and where to find out more information go to our Walking Page.
You may like to walk from Moretonhampstead or take transport out onto the moor. Use the Dartmoor Bus services to ramble further afield or complete a one way walk, returning by bus. There are plenty of ways to enjoy our stunning countryside and get fit too.

Bovey Castle Activities

With more than 275 acres of Dartmoor National Park on our doorstep and many different activities on offer at Bovey Castle, we're certain you'll find entertainment to suit everyone. Bovey Castle’s off-site and on-site activities are offered to both residents and visitors, including falconry, fly fishing, horse riding, quad biking, clay pigeon shooting, cider and sloe gin making, archery and guided walks of Dartmoor. Hot air balloon trips, gliding, Sunseeker yacht charters and a picnic boat excursion can also be arranged by the hotel.
During the school holidays, the hotel offers supervised activities for children in the Playroom (3 – 7 years) and Bovey Rangers (7 – 14 years) with morning and afternoon sessions. Younger guests can take part in painting, clay work and biscuit decorating. Older children will be taken out into the estate for survival skills, raft building, golf lessons and falconry at £26 per session.
