Our Local Sports Centre
King George V Sports & Community Centre

Moretonhampstead has an award winning sports centre and a variety of sports activities take place there. The centre is located on the outskirts of Moretonhampstead on the North Bovey road. For more detailed information please go to their site at King George V Sport and Community Centre

 

 

Swimming Pool

Swimming pool in Moretonhampstead

A solar heated outdoor pool is located behind the Court Street free car park. It is normally open at the end of May to the beginning of September, dependant on the weather. A board is located in the square in Moretonhampstead giving opening times. Please phone 01647 440043 or enquire at the Information Centre.

 

Archery

Tuition for small groups or individuals is available from a qualified international archer, or at Bovey Castle (especially for larger groups).

 

Golf

Bovey Castle Golf course

Moretonhampstead's nearest golf course is located at Bovey Castle.

The Old Course at Bovey Castle is a challenging and beautiful 18-hole championship golf course, designed in 1926 by JF Abercromby, one of the finest British golf course designers of the Golden Era, and has been named one of top 100 golf courses in Britain.

The course meanders through the Castle estate, surrounded by idyllic landscape, with challenges to meet any handicap. Bovey also offers a fully-equipped club house, driving range, golf academy and bistro for pre and post match meals and snacks. 

Designed to rival its sister courses at Gleneagles and Turnberry, this course has been described as an experience of golf never to be forgotten, presenting the pure challenge of golf to professional and amateur alike.

 

 

Tennis

WalkingWalking

Moretonhampstead is known as the Gateway to the moor and so as you can imagine there are a lot of walking opportunities. To find out more about where to walk, guided walks and where to find out more information go to our Walking Page.

You may like to walk from Moretonhampstead or take transport out onto the moor. Use the Dartmoor Bus services to ramble further afield or complete a one way walk, returning by bus. There are plenty of ways to enjoy our stunning countryside and get fit too.
