The Sparrowhawk

Historical sites of Moretonhampstead

When King John granted the town its charter during the thirteenth century, the rent was set as one sparrowhawk per year.  The bird has become something of a symbol for the Town and is incorporated into works of public art by artist, Roger Dean including the sparrowhawk on a wall in the main square in the centre of Moretonhampstead.
