Moretonhampstead's location in Dartmoor National Park makes it an ideal centre for walking.
A network of footpaths and bridleways criss-cross the beautiful surrounding moorland. All you need is OS Outdoor Leisure Map 28 which covers all of Dartmoor at 2.5 ins. to 1 mile (4cm = 1km), available from the Moretonhampstead Visitor Information Centre and other local shops.
Guided Walks from Moretonhampstead
On summer evenings and on alternate Sunday mornings throughout the rest of the year, local rambler Gary Cox leads walks around Moretonhampstead and surrounding moor land. The walks average about 5 miles (8km) and are free, except if there is additional transport. No booking - just turn up. Other Guided Walks are run throughout the year by the Dartmoor National Park Authority from various locations around Moretonhampstead. Full details are to be found in the Dartmoor Visitor available free from the Information Centre.
Ride and Ramble

Notices confirming details are placed at the Information Centre and a Public noticeboard in The Square in the week leading up to the walk. The walks are free and anyone, be they visitor or local can come along but please note it is as your own risk!
Gary Cox invites you to join him on walks around the area. The walks are free but a fee of £2 is charged when we use the Community bus. Anyone can join in but please note everyone walks at their own risk. Details can sometimes change- please check on poster in the Tourist Information Centre.
